School is out

posted Nov 25, 2010 4:49 AM by Theresa Samons

The holidays are here and the parent-child Waldorf classes are over. The next session starts in January. We are going to miss them until then, but there's always so many fun things to do in the meantime! I think the little Snoo will love decorating the Christmas tree this year. When we go to the store, he just marvels at them. We can string some popcorn for the squirrels (I bet our new baby squirrel will love that!), go caroling, watch some Christmas plays, bake cookies and all sorts of fun things.

We've been hit by a stomach bug in our household and have reached for Netflix and the iPhone as digital babysitters to help the days pass quickly. It's taking it's toll too. Snoo's talking instantly reversed and he was not in rhythm with the final class of this session last week. I had let him watch Netflix quite a bit the day before because work was busy and I needed time to get some things done. Not thrilled about that. So we have a 4 day weekend that can be as media free as possible. I started a crochet project and we have many books that need reading. Lots of play, lots of talking. Bring it on!

Autumn in our home

Summer seemed to last forever this year (no complaints though), but it is definitely autumn now. We've spent time at Kiuper's Farm, Sonny Acres, forest preserves and our own back yard playing in a pile of leaves. Snoo has enjoyed spending time at the local Waldorf school, especially in their spacious outdoor playing area. He's walked the paths with us, roamed through the grass, played in the houses and thrown copious amounts of sand. We've been enjoying a book from the library called Hooray for Fall! by Kazuo Iwamura.

Right before it started getting cool at night, Sushi fell out an open window and was missing for several days. We're so happy she's back! Trillian and Orange were out as well. Trill came right in the back door when Scott found out they were missing and Orange came back within an hour. Guess who got microchipped last weekend? That's right, Sushi and Trillian! I should update our picture at the top of the website and add in little miss Trillian!

hehe we've had houseguests lately--it was fun! Now we're getting back to our routine and also breaking in a new kitty companion, Trillian. I'll post pics someday.

Rest In Peace, Simbacat

Simba was laid to rest on Thursday, May 6th at home. Doc euthanized her after a lovely day together with the family. We love her and are so thankful for the many years we enjoyed together.

Simba's Surgery

Simba had her second tooth-related surgery last week. She's doing quite well, rolling around in the sunshine when we go outside, digging into her canned food with gusto and coming around for ample ear rubbing and head scratching. We're doing 3 more weeks of pretty strong antibiotics to see if the lump in her face goes down. Our vet thinks cancer is a possibility. I think she had a pretty nasty tooth episode and will heal up nicely. Jacob helped her clean her fur today with a spare baby brush. She seemed to enjoy that!
